Actor Giancarlo Esposito recreates one of his most famous scenes from the film Do the Right Thing 35 years later.
Giancarlo Esposito recreates a scene from Do the Right Thing years later. A 1989 Spike Lee film, Do The Right Thing featured a prominent cast that included Lee himself, Samuel L. Jackson, Danny Aiello, Ossie Davis, Martin Lawrence, Rosie Perez, Ruby Dee, John Turturro, Bill Dunn and Richard Edson, among others. One of those cast members was Breaking Bad’s Esposito, who played Mookie’s eccentric friend Buggin’ Out.

In an Instagram video from lethalshooter, Esposito recreates an iconic scene from Buggin’ Out. In the video, Esposito sees his white Air Jordan shoes run over by a bicycle, which in this case is slowly walking down the pavement. The actor repeats several of the actual lines from Do the Right Thing, including phrases like ‘what are you doing on my block, in my neighbourhood, on my side of the street?’
Esposito does a great job capturing the essence of his signature Buggin’ Out character. Certain details from the original film are changed, including the doubling of the price of Air Jordans from $100 to $200. The remade scene also omits the gentrification lines from Do the Right Thing, as the original scene, unlike the new video, features a white man in a Larry Bird t-shirt running over shoes.
